Comey Hid Among White House Curtains to Avoid Trump

  • Letter from Trump to Comey

That common stance began to shift late Tuesday after media reports surfaced that former FBI director James Comey had written memos alleging President Donald Trump pressured him to halt an investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn's ties to Russian Federation.

John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said late Tuesday that the developments had reached "Watergate size and scale". John McCain, R-Arizona, told CBS contributor Bob Schieffer during the International Republican Institute Freedoms Dinner on Tuesday night.

Comey's dismissal sent shockwaves through Washington, with critics accusing the president of trying to thwart the FBI investigation into Russia's alleged interference in the U.S. election and any Moscow ties to Trump associates.

The Washington Post reported this week that Mr Trump shared highly classified information with Mr Lavrov and Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak about an Islamic State terror threat involving laptop computers on aircraft.

McCain also reflected on the major headlines that have come out of the Trump White House almost every day for more than a week. Trump made the surprise move of firing Comey, head of an investigation into Trump and his campaign's alleged ties with Russian Federation, early last week.

"So, from my point of view, this is of enormous outcome for his presidency".

It seems like every day there is a new accusation of a scandal developing within Donald Trump's presidency.

In a statement, Richmond called Trump's conversation with Comey "outrageous" and said the request to drop an investigation "qualifies as obstruction of justice". Adversity makes you stronger.

Another reporter asked Amash if he had more confidence in Trump or in Comey. "I think we are in the position now where it's time for an independent commission or a special prosecutor or whatever".

"I think we'll have director Comey come back to the Congress in fairly short order to testify before one committee or another", Schiff told reporters.

The Illinois congressman argued that people are drawing conclusions based on their political affiliations, "not by the rule of law".

On Wednesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan said Congress needs to gather all relevant information before "rushing to judgment".

The oversight hearing will happen the same day as the deadline Chaffetz gave the Federal Bureau of Investigation to hand over any documents or recordings related to any conversations between Comey and Trump.

US President Donald Trump has defended his decision to discuss intelligence with the Russians during a White House meeting last week, saying he had an "absolute right" to share "facts pertaining to terrorism and airline flight safety".
