CREDIT SUISSE: The WannaCry ransomware attack could give Microsoft's stock a boost

Those who use Bkav Pro or Bkav Endpoint can operate directly because Tool automatically protect.

The subject of all of this hassle, the WannaCry worm has affected at least 200,000 Windows machines around the globe since Friday, leading to the disruption of systems from FedEX corp to Britain's National Health Service and even vehicle factories.

The WannaCry ransomware has already infected hundreds of thousands of Windows computers across the world, and as the world is recovering from fiasco, security experts are also looking into what caused so many systems to be compromised so fast. WannaCrypt first gains access to the computer system via an email attachment and thereafter can spread rapidly through LAN.

WannaCry's success showed that a large number of organizations are falling behind on patches and that many have legacy systems running old versions of Windows. The software held the victims' computers hostage and threatened to delete their files unless they paid $300.

The attack left hospitals crippled as operations were canceled, ambulances diverted, and patient records made unavailable in England and Scotland, The Guardian reported.

The most recent ransomware attack occurred this past Friday and continues into this week.

If your device or network is infected by WannaCry or other ransomware, do not automatically pay the ransom.

"Using outdated versions of Windows that are no longer supported raises a lot of questions", Dore explained.

The effects of the ransomware attack were felt around the world, affecting computers that run factories, banks, government agencies and transport systems in several countries.

Experts say the spread of the virus had been stymied by a security researcher in the United Kingdom hackers have issued new versions of the virus that cyber security organizations are actively trying to counter and stamp out.

Researchers at security firm Proofpoint said the related attack, which installs a currency "miner" that generates digital cash, began infecting machines late last month or early this month, but had not been previously discovered as it allows computers to operate while creating digital cash in the background. The rationale behind the sectors move is that the market expects increased demand for cybersecurity services as fear spreads of future attacks.

Businesses and home users can follow similar steps to ensure safety, notably keeping security software patches and antivirus software up to date.
