  • Evangelos Marinakis buys Nottingham Forest with EFL approval

Sportsmail revealed on Wednesday night that the EFL had given the 100 per cent takeover the green light, with Marinakis and consortium partner Socrates Kominakis ending the unpopular five-year ownership of Fawaz Al Hasawi.

The long-awaited takeover of Nottingham Forest FC by a consortium led by Evangelos Marinakis has been completed.

Shipowner and businessman Marinakis has stated his plans to make Forest "the model club" in England for interacting with supporters, after a hard season in the Championship.

Evangelos Marinakis is the new owner of Nottingham Forest.

Olympiacos was founded in 1925 and has won 44 league titles, 27 Greek Cups and four Greek Super Cups.

Marinakis, who set up his business in the United Kingdom after attending school and university in London, wants to replicate his success with Olympiacos at Forest and has appointed lawyer Nicholas Randall as club chairman. Our objective is to bring back the glory days.

Marinakis' arrival saw him put in place a hierarchy at the City Ground.

Nicholas Randall, a top sports lawyer, has been appointed chairman, Olympiacos managing director Ioannis Vrentzos becomes chief executive officer and David Cook, who has been senior sponsorship manager at Etihad Airways, joins Forest as its chief commercial officer. "In this regard I am pleased to confirm that we have agreed a contract extension for Frank McParland as Sport Director".

Mark Warburton, who helped Nottingham Forest survive in the Championship with a win on the final day of the season, has been given the full backing of Marinakis already.

"We have a long-term plan and within this long-term plan we want to bring Nottingham to where it belongs", he said. The first is the formation of an Advisory Council made up of members of Nottingham's higher education institutions, the second is the Nottingham Forest Youth Council, whose chair will be represent the views and aspirations of Nottingham's youth to the Nottingham Forest Board.

Under Marinakis, the Reds will also look to include former greats from their glorious past in their plans.

"But they remained loyal and for us that's very important".
