Facebook Testing Crossover Notifications Across Messenger & Instagram

  • Facebook Messenger's home screen has been reorganised with a top bar showing new tabs for Messages who is Active and favourite Groups as well as a bottom bar for Home Calls the Camera button People and Games

At the heart of the new features is a new-look home screen with new tabs for messages, including one that shows which of your friends are active on Messenger through a highlighted green dot. These tabs, as one example, isolates users who are active that moment, making it easier to find who is online versus those who aren't now available.

Now that Groups is moved out of the bottom Tab bar, Facebook has been able to replace it with Games. No, it's not getting rid of its Stories feature, Messenger Day, but is instead making a series a smaller changes to the way the content on its home screen is organized in an effort to speed navigation and help you pick up where you left off on your last visit. When you receive a new message, for instance, you'll see a red dot next to the Home button.

The home screen revamp for Facebook Messenger is needed due to the many new additions that have been recently added to the app.

Oddly, given its desire to compete with Snapchat across platforms, Facebook has now decreased the size of its Camera button in Messenger.

The second change comes to the bottom bar of Messenger, which will now feature Home, Calls, the in-app Camera, People, and Games.

The social network is reorganizing the Messenger home screen in an effort to make it "your central hub for connecting with the people and businesses you want to in whatever way you prefer".

Facebook said it plans to roll out these changes worldwide on iOS and Android this week. I mean personally, I feel the red dot thing is a bit over the top, however, the rest of the features are likely to make messenger a more engaging place.
