  • Why Indy cars are'more pure than F1 according to a double World Champion

This season Alonso will skip Formula 1's Monaco Grand Prix, instead focusing his attention on the 101st Indianapolis 500. The motorsport superstar has been racing since he was very young and reached rapidly high levels on the racing ranks making him one of the most respected drivers from famous racing competition series Verizon IndyCar, since he joined in 2008.

"It's incredible for us to have a driver of his stature, still actively racing in Formula One and missing their crown jewel event to come race ours, in some ways justifies what we all say about how much the Indy 500 means to the racing world, and it certainly attracts a whole new audience".

This is what Oriol told us about the upcoming race that will take place on May 28th and its importance on the motor sports scene this year.

OS: Of course, I think I'm going to have the best opportunity I have ever had to win. Hahaha. I joke, I joke (not really).

Thanks to the simulator testing, I felt like I knew my auto before I got in it last week at Indy. Everybody it's getting ready to win.

"We've had this year some good Fridays and Saturdays, but bad Sundays as we haven't finished a race yet". There are like 20 out of the 33 cars that have great possibilities to win and we'll be fighting til the end.

Fernando Alonso says driving in the auto in which he will contest the Indy500 feels more pure than a Formula One vehicle, comparing the experience to his karting days.

OS: Definitely. It's the most shocking news in the motor show in 30 years.

"Racing in traffic has also been a good lesson".

De Ferran will certainly help Alonso in any way he can as he gets him ready for his debut race at the Indy 500. It is hard for everybody. We have to run the speedway everyday for 10 days.

LT: What's your biggest challenge and fear for the competition? You go out there, you jump in the vehicle, adjust the set-up of the auto, the precision you need with your feedback and the set-up tuning. they change a quarter of a millimeter here, a quarter of a degree there, things that could change the balance of the auto completely, even if four corners seems not too hard. "Especially if he comes out here and runs well, I think that will make a lot of drivers evaluate or investigate trying to get into the vehicle for the 500 [in future]".
