The act is the obstruction of a lawful investigation of the President's campaign ties to Russian influence in his 2016 Presidential Election.

(Vatican Radio) Russia's President Vladimir Putin says Moscow is prepared to provide a record of a White House meeting in which U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly shared classified intelligence with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

But a leading U.S. Republican politician said he would have little faith in any notes Putin might supply.

The congressman from Cascade Township responded "yes" when questioned by a reporter whether details in the memos, including President Donald Trump asking Comey to end an investigation into fired national security adviser Michael Flynn, would merit impeachment.

"Look at the way I've been treated lately, especially by the media", the US President told cadets graduating from the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. U.S. Representative Adam Kinzinger joined a small but growing number of Republican lawmakers who have said they would back some sort of independent investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 election.

Criminally speaking, obstructing justice applies to a variety of scenarios - like threatening a juror, retaliating against a witness, or impeding a grand jury proceeding - and Trump's alleged request would not fit neatly into any of them, legal experts said.

"What I have determined is that based upon the unique circumstances, the public interest requires me to place this investigation into the authority of a person who exercises a degree of independence from the normal chain of command", Rosenstein said in a statement.

"But we have an obligation to carry out our oversight regardless of which party is in the White House and that means before rushing to judgment we get all the pertinent information".

"There are some people out there who want to harm the president", Ryan said during a press briefing.

"We're going to walk and chew gum at the same time".

Comey wrote the memo after he met in the Oval Office with Trump, the day after the president fired Flynn on Feb 14 for misleading Vice President Mike Pence about the extent of his conversations a year ago with Russia's ambassador, Sergei Kislyak. "So there are a lot of unanswered questions".

During a GOP dinner Tuesday night, Arizona Senator John McCain said Trump's scandals have reached "Watergate size and scale".

In a letter to acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe on Tuesday, the Republican chairman of a House oversight committee, Jason Chaffetz, set a May 24 deadline for the FBI to produce all relevant material relating to any communications between Comey and Trump.
