On Tuesday, he vowed to get the memos ex-FBI Director James Comey reportedly wrote about his meeting with Trump in which the president allegedly asked him to shut down the FBI investigation into ousted National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

A Capitol Hill reporter asked House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) on Thursday if "we might be better off" with Vice President Mike Pence instead of President Donald Trump, given the recent developments having to do with the FBI's Russian Federation investigation - but Ryan made clear he was not willing to entertain that scenario. "It is obvious there are some people out there that want to harm the president but we have an obligation to carry out our oversight regardless of which party is in the White House".

Ryan says a House committee has "appropriately" requested a Comey memo describing a February meeting he had with Trump.

Ryan encouraged his fellow lawmakers Wednesday to wait for "the facts" in the case and reminded them that "there are a lot of unanswered questions" still when it comes to Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

Asked if he was anxious distractions caused by the Trump presidency would harm congressional Republicans in the 2018 mid-term elections, Speaker Ryan insisted voters would look more at the performance of his caucus.

"There's clearly a lot of politics being played", Ryan said.

Following a week of nonstop bombshell reports regarding President Donald Trump, former FBI Director James Comey and the leak of highly classified information to Russian diplomats, the House Democrats are going to hold a news conference to discuss all of these topics and chart a path forward.

The panel's top Democrat, Elijah Cummings of Maryland, a constant Trump critic, called the allegation of Trump pressure on Mr Comey "explosive" and said "it appears like a textbook case of criminal obstruction of justice".

House Speaker Paul Ryan has set a Google News alert to notify him of the instant that Donald Trump becomes unpopular enough to turn against, Ryan revealed on Thursday.

"Speaker Ryan has shown that he has zero, zero, zero appetite for any investigation into President Trump".

"I hope you can let this go", he said, according to the memo.

Mnuchin said the details are still being worked out, but- "One of the things we've done is we've proposed getting rid of nearly every single deduction, which is something that is used by the rich, in return for a slight reduction in taxes, and our objective is that 95 percent of Americans won't need to use itemized deductions and will be able to fill out simplified tax returns".
