James, Love help Cavs rout Celtics 117-104 in Game 1

Game 2 is Friday night at TD Garden before the series shifts to Cleveland for Games 3 and 4. (James made his 11th straight first team.) Thomas was hounded by the Cavs in the opening game, scoring just 17 points. James has scored 30 points in seven straight games as he looks to visit the finals for the seventh straight season.

BOSTON (AP) - LeBron James did pretty much whatever he wanted to against the Celtics in the Cavaliers' dominating win in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.

In four regular-season games during the 2016-17 season, LeBron averaged nearly a triple-double with 29.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game, and as he showed in the first game of the Eastern Conference Finals, he looks like he's ready to carry his regular season performances over into the postseason.

Still, the Celtics wound up grabbing the top seed and home-court advantage through the East finals, and that gave them the right to host Games 1 and 2.

The Cavs toyed with the Celtics from the start, building a 26-point lead in the first half, expanding it to 28 in the third quarter before the Celtics cut it down to 17 at the end of the quarter. "It was clear that he was trying to get to the rim on us no matter who was on him", said Stevens.

Asked if the Celtics had a bit of a letdown after an emotional seven-game series with the Washington Wizards, Thomas said, "I don't think so".

At one point during the game, Thomas was seeing trash-talking Irving, who had a brilliant response. They hit us first. "Whatever happened in the past is in the past", Thompson told ESPN after finishing with a career-playoff-high 20 points on 7-for-7 shooting, nine rebounds and two steals. They were more physical.

This isn't the first time LeBron has played it causal this postseason. Hardly. So much has happened in LeBron's career since that series took place, and we doubt he's still using a missed opportunity from almost a decade ago as his lone source of motivation.

Cavaliers: Since Game 5 of National Basketball Association finals, Cleveland has won a franchise-record 12 straight playoff games. "So we just take what the defense gives us, and that's how we try to play". Boston must find a way to slow down James while not getting eaten up by a supporting cast, which other than Kevin Love's big game, didn't produce at its usual high rate. They finished the game at 48.1 percent.
