Music world pays tribute to Soundgarden rocker Chris Cornell

In 2015, Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland died of an overdose on his tour bus.

"Cornell, the lead singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave, had tweeted earlier on Wednesday: "#Detroit finally back to Rock City! He said the family would work closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause.

Cornell was found unresponsive in his room's bathroom floor by a family friend who had gone to check up on him after the concert.

The office of the Wayne County Medical Examiner on Thursday determined the cause of his death to be suicide by hanging, noting that a full autopsy has yet to be completed.

But now the singer joins fellow fallen Seattle grunge architects like Kurt Cobain and Layne Stanley with his recent passing on Wednesday night in Detroit; mere hours after Soundgarden had performed at city's Fox Theater venue. Cornell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tributes have been pouring in, with Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro tweeting: "SO SO stunned to hear about Chris Cornell!". Incredibly talented. Incredibly young. While they were often categorized as "grunge"-a descriptor that was strongly associated with their hometown-the group was often more experimental than their contemporaries, regularly utilizing unconventional time signatures and even branching out into psychedelia".

The Mariners honored Soundgarden's lead singer Chris Cornell with a moment of silence and photo tribute before the team's game against the White Sox.

One of Chris Cornell's last Facebook posts. He never completed high school and said he barely talked to anyone for two years as a teenager.

Their most popular songs include "Black Hole Sun", "Fell On Black Days", "Spoonman", and "The Day I Tried To Live".

Formed in 1984 by Cornell, guitarist Kim Thayil and bassist Hiro Yamamoto, Soundgarden's third studio album, Badmotorfinger, in 1991 spawned the singles Jesus Christ Pose, Rusty Cage and Outshined. "We extend our deepest sympathies to the members of Soundgarden, their crew, management, and the Cornell family".

Cornell had sobered up by the mid-2000s.

The band broke up in 1997, with Cornell starting a solo career that included a Grammy nomination for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance in 2000. He's survived by his wife, Vicky, and three children: daughters Toni and Lillian Jean, and son Christopher.

Soundgarden would reunite by 2010 and go on to release two more albums, with another en route. What an incredible singer and musician we just lost.
