  • Rock star Chris Cornell dies in Detroit

Cornell was found with a "band around his neck", as the Detroit Free Press reports, and apparently hanged himself in his hotel room at the MGM Grand in downtown Detroit after a show at the Fox Theatre.

"They would like to thank fans for their continuous love and loyalty and ask that their privacy be respected at this time", the statement said.

Cornell was on tour and performed Wednesday night in Detroit with Soundgarden.

All three children were taken into State Police Custody.

"To create the intimacy of an acoustic performance there needed to be real stories".

In a statement to The Associated Press, Brian Bumbery says Cornell died Wednesday night in Detroit. "That's always a challenge in three and a half or four minutes - to be able to do that, to be able to do it directly". "He told me he's done it in the past, that it's not the first time he put him in that contraption", Robin said. "There was about two years where I was more or less agoraphobic and didn't deal with anybody, didn't talk to anybody, didn't have any friends at all".

"And so I have this memory of always being hung-over, really". "It was like a Detroit, only northwest kind of".

"I think something like this is so egregious that most people. would know to not put a kid in the cage regardless of what you think the good reason was".

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Cornell was one of the main movers and shakers of the grunge movement, forming Soundgarden with guitarist Kim Thayil and bassist Hiro Yamamoto in 1984. In 2001, he joined Audioslave, a supergroup that included former Rage Against the Machine members Tom Morello, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford.

Soundgarden was to headline Friday at Rock on the Range, a three-day concert in Columbus, Ohio.

Soundgarden paved the way for a wave of iconic grunge/rock bands including Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam. Cornell provided vocals on Alice in Chains song Right Turn and sang with Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder on Hunger Strike, a song by another popular band he played in, Temple of the Dog. "But once I removed the mountain and the bike, there was just the drinking".

Navarro tweeted that he was "stunned" by the news, while Rossdale called it a "total shock". If we are not leading a happy, productive life, we are leading probably an unhappy nonproductive life. You're either going in one direction or in another direction.

The music industry mourned his sudden death online.

Cornell performed solo after Soundgarden broke up two years later.
