Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg has uploaded a rare insight into his life before he became one of the wealthiest human beings on the planet.

The video shows a young Zuckerberg sitting on his bunkbed, wearing plaid pajama bottoms and nervously opening an email that would confirm his admittance to Harvard.

Ahead of his commencement speech at his alma mater on 25 May, the billionaire posted a home video of the moment he clicked open his acceptance email, filmed by his dad.

Mr. Zuckerberg is due to take his honorary degree at Harvards next week.

Earlier in March, Zuckerberg and Bill Gates, also a drop-out from Harvard, got together for a promotional video for the college.

Responding to a comment a fan had posted on his video, he added: "Before I went to college, my mum bet me I'd drop out and my younger sister bet me she'd finish college before me".

The video captures the fateful moment that would eventually lead him on his path to creating the world's most popular social media site, and becoming the fifth richest person in the world. "I bet them I'd get a degree", Zuckerberg writes. "Now I suppose the cycle is complete", stated Zuckerberg.
