  • Former US Rep. Anthony Weiner faces charges in sexting case

The Democrat will appear in court at 11 a.m., the US attorney's office in Manhattan said.

Weiner, who represented NY in Congress from 1999 to 2011, resigned after revelations that he was sending sexually explicit messages to multiple women.

Weiner reportedly once told the girl, "I would bust that tight p-y so hard and so often that you would leak and limp for a week", and sent her bare-chested pictures of himself.

Former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner has pleaded guilty to transmitting sexual material to a minor and could get years in prison.

Pleading to the charge, which requires him to register as a sex offender, could bring a sentence of up to 10 years.

The Associated Press and New York Times both cite anonymous sources who stated Weiner agreed to plead guilty on Wednesday. It was during the investigation into Weiner's illicit relationship that federal agents seized his computer and discovered thousands of Clinton emails forwarded there by Abedin.

The controversy centered on Clinton's use of a private email server while she was us secretary of state.

Federal officials began investigating reports that Weiner had exchanged sexually explicit messages with the girl beginning in January 2016 - a probe that led to further scrutiny of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server as secretary of state.

That led to then-FBI Director James Comey informing Congress on October 28 that the bureau was again investigating Clinton's private email server use.

The controversy over Clinton's use of a private email server while she was USA secretary of state dogged her throughout the campaign. Clinton has publicly blamed Comey's letter for contributing to her loss to Donald Trump.

Trump fired Comey days later amid the FBI's probe into whether Trump's campaign colluded with Russian Federation to defeat Clinton, an allegation he has vehemently denied.

Comey testified on May 3 that it makes him "mildly nauseous" that the letters to Congress could have changed the election outcome, NPR reported, but he stood by that he believes he did the right thing.

Weiner resigned from Congress in June 2011 after explicit pictures in an unrelated case became public, CNN reported.
