The German grocery chain Lidl is opening its first stores in U.S. after years of preparation.

Lidl also unveiled the location of 20 stores that will open during the summer of 2017.

Lidl plans to open 20 stores in the US this summer. "When customers shop at Lidl, they will experience less complexity, lower prices, better choices, and greater confidence". Lidl has already revealed plans to roll out as many as 100 stores along the populous East Coast, stretching from New Jersey to Atlanta and creating 5,000 jobs.

Lidl, a Teutonic discount supermarket chain, is set to open its first USA stores next month, in a move that could jeopardize Walmart's (wmt) hard fought share gains in the lower-priced grocery wars.

In fact, Reuters reports, the company is promising products 50 percent cheaper than its competitors in the us market-a market already in the midst of what the news source has dubbed "a price war".

Their stores will be open from 8 a.m.to 9 p.m. Monday-Sunday. The retailer's in-house brands will account for 90 percent of the products.

Locally sourced products, wine, and coffee will be focuses of the U.S. stores, according to the presentation, which was provided to residents of a Maryland community where Lidl is building a store. The company is launching stores in these states first due to their proximity to its headquarters in Arlington County, Virginia, which opened in June 2015.

Despite all of the exclusive, upscale offerings on display at the event, Tiktak stressed the essentially democratic nature of what he called Lidl's "incomparable concept, asserting, "We are a supermarket for everybody". The catch? The discount grocery chain didn't say which of the 20 planned stores would be first.

Rupesh Parikh, senior food analyst for food, grocery and consumer products at Oppenheimer & Company, said Wal-Mart is watching competition like Aldi and Lidl closely.

In addition to groceries, Lidl sells appliances, furniture, and clothing.
