  • Judge confirms Prince's 6 siblings as heirs to his estate

Kevin Eide, the judge in Carver County where Prince died suddenly a year ago at his Paisley Park estate, said that the "Purple Rain" star's heirs were his sister Tyka Nelson and five half-siblings.

Lawyers for those six had pressed the court, saying any further delays will increase costs to the estate and impede its efficient administration. Eide said earlierthis month he would take their request under advisement.

Prince died last April from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, a highly addictive opioid similar to morphine. Eide has said he will consider any cases sent to him by the appellate courts.

The riches include roughly $25 million in real estate that Prince acquired before his death, in addition to stockpiles of cash and 67 gold bars.

Attorneys for rejected claimants had urged Eide to wait for appeals to be resolved before naming the heirs.

A judge in Minnesota has ruled on who the official heirs of Prince's massive estate will be.

Soon after his death, his full sister, Tyka Nelson, filed paperwork with the court seeking to be named his heir and administrator of his estate.

A judge confirmed Prince's six siblings to be his rightful heirs in a ruling released Friday, bringing them a big step closer to collecting their shares of the music legend's multimillion-dollar estate.

Judge Eide also said Prince's assets will not be distributed without a formal court order and that nothing will be distributed that might adversely affect the claims of those with pending appeals.

The heirs have also filed motions centered on former Prince confidant L. Londell McMillan, an entertainment lawyer who has been acting as a consultant to the estate.

Universal in February announced with fanfare that it had secured the rights to Prince s catalog after the mid-1990s, when the artist exited rival label Warner, as well as unspecified recordings from Prince s earlier heyday.
