Labour spending plans to create £58bn hole in public finances, claim Tories

Len McCluskey, general secretary of the Unite union, told Politico it would be a success for Labour if it could hold onto 200 seats in the 650-seat House of Commons - or 29 fewer than the party now holds.

"The reality, of course, is that Labour has launched their manifesto, a fantastic manifesto, a manifesto for workers, for ordinary working people and a manifesto which will change Britain for the better".

The Tories said that if Labour's nationalisation programme - which was not costed in the manifesto - and other investment spending was taken into account, it would lead to an additional £58 billion in borrowing by 2021-22, the final year of the next parliament.

There has been a gradual rise in Labour's polling numbers since the start of the campaign.

"I do not think that people voted to make themselves poorer, but that is exactly what I think a hard Brexit would do, and that's what Theresa May wants".

"I believe these next three weeks will throw up something that is quite extraordinary".

Asked what success would look like in Scotland where Labour had just one MP, Ms Dugdale said: "I am not going to put a number on it because I haven't produced a list of target seats. There is everything to play for now and we'll be fighting for every single vote".

"The scale of the task is vast".

The Conservatives said bringing them back into public ownership, which would require a future Labour government to compensate existing shareholders, would add £14bn to the national debt in one year alone. To be frank, don't believe them. They were part of a wider conversation about Twitter and examples of the things someone with freedom of speech can theoretically say.

"We can not allow this to be the choice at this election - because it doesn't represent what the vast majority of people in this country want".

"I am very proud that we have a party that is diverse, that is inclusive, that is pluralistic and this manifesto is a product of that process". He's got now just under four weeks to try to see if you can break through that image and it's going to be a very, very hard task.whether that breakthrough can happen, we'll wait and see.

"This morning, as he said quite clearly, we can win this, but it does require a lot of determination amongst our supporters to get out campaigning on the doorstep".
