Pressure built on U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday as lawmakers intensified probes into his ouster of the FBI chief and possible collusion between his 2016 campaign and Russian Federation, more fellow Republicans called for an independent investigation and one even mentioned impeachment.
As the controversy swirled, Trump said in a speech to U.S. Coast Guard Academy graduates in CT he did not get elected "to serve the Washington media or special interests".
Last week, President Donald Trump abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey, who at the time was leading an investigation into possible collusion between Trump associates and Russian Federation during the 2016 election. According to Putin, this latest accusation against Trump is "political schizophrenia".
Afterward, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told reporters that "everything he said was that you need to treat this investigation as if it may be a criminal investigation".
"Personally, just from what I know right now, it's being made a bigger deal than what it is", said Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Georgia, who said that the president has not committed an obstruction of justice.
Ryan's comments after a closed-door meeting of House Republicans came as lawmakers grappled with a series of damaging developments out of the White House over the past week. "And that means, before rushing to judgment, we get all the pertinent information", Ryan said.
Others are already considering leaving, and allies due to join the administration say they are holding off. Ryan also insisted the Trump controversies were not paralysing Republican legislative efforts in Congress. The White House denies that Trump made the request to shut down the probe. The week ended with a volley of tweets from the President, including one threatening to release possible secret recordings of his conversations with Comey.
Questions about Trump's conduct have been mounting for weeks, most recently with two explosive revelations - that in February the president pressed Comey to drop a federal investigation into Flynn's contacts with Russia and that he disclosed classified information to the senior Russian officials last week'.
Trump also allegedly asked Comey to stop investigating ties between his former national security adviser Michael Flynn and Russian Federation - before Trump fired Comey. CNN confirmed the details of that memo. "All communications between everybody - Comey, and other people in the hierarchy". His comments were reported by The Daily Beast. Trump wrote, his anger boiling over.
"Those are the things that I got elected to do", Ryan added. "That's what's in my control, and that's what I'm focused on".
White House aides mostly kept a rare low profile, avoiding going on television.
Along with Russian Federation and Comey-related inquires, Ryan could also face questions about the health care bill, which is now making its way through the Senate. Republicans in the upper chamber, however, have shown little confidence in the bill and have signaled that they're starting from scratch with their own bill.
Republican senators have also expressed some frustration with questions of credibility now surrounding the White House while simultaneously derailing the GOP agenda and messaging.
"I wouldn't put much credibility into whatever Putin's notes are", Rubio said on Fox News.
According to Sen. Jeff Flake, it's the new normal.
"We're going to keep doing our jobs, we're going to keep passing our bills, we're going to keep advancing our reforms", Ryan said.
Still, markets aren't exactly panicking amid the news from the White House.
Boston also got the Nets' first-round picks in 2014, 2016 and 2018. "This is pretty good", said Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck . They've got some really good players in this draft. "Now it's our turn 4 years later to take some benefits from the trade".
