Trump Claims 'Absolute Right' to Share Info with Russian Federation

  • Analysis: Trump intel sharing likely to leave allies anxious

"Humanitarian reasons, plus I want Russian Federation to greatly step up their fight against ISIS & terrorism", Trump wrote.

Sen. Chris Coons is troubled by media reports saying President Trump revealed classified information in a meeting with Russian officials. The information had been obtained by a USA partner and shared with Washington, according to the official.

Version One: White House aides initially disputed the premise of the reporting.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed the authority to share "facts pertaining to terrorism" and airline safety with Russian Federation, saying in a pair of tweets he has "an absolute right" as president to do so. The official said the disclosure came as Trump boasted about his access to classified intelligence.

Now jump ahead to President Trump sharing highly classified information to a foreign adversary in the Oval Office last week.

Citing a memo written by Mr Comey on a meeting with Mr Trump in the Oval Office, the report claims Mr Trump told the Federal Bureau of Investigation chief Mr Flynn had done nothing wrong.

The new details about their concerns come amid mounting questions about whether Trump himself has been careless with the nation's secrets.

"I don't know anyone who worked for the governor who would work for President Trump", said John Weaver, who ran the Republican primary campaign of Ohio Gov. John Kasich. There is no evidence that Trump went through any of those calculations before blurting out what is known as code word information - intelligence-speak for information so highly classified it is above top secret, and usually limited to the smallest possible pool.

"I'm concerned about the fact that the President feels like he has to give something to Russian Federation first when there have been repeated instances of Russian Federation being sanctioned in Ukraine, committing war crimes in Syria and conducting operations that are contrary to what we'd like to believe are freedom of operations and sovereignties of different nations", he said Tuesday on CNN's "New Day".

"I think we could do with a little less drama from the White House", McConnell said on Bloomberg Television. "He wasn't briefed on the source or method of the information either", McMaster said at a press briefing.

The news reverberated around the world as countries started second-guessing their own intelligence-sharing agreements with the U.S. I should maybe just make the statement here that the president wasn't even aware of where this information came from.

The revelations - which Trump appeared to verify in a pair of tweets Tuesday morning - are sure to shadow the president as he embarks Friday on his first overseas trip as president.

Irresponsibly (although legally) disclosing classified information to Russian Federation. Trump tweeted Tuesday morning that, "As President I wanted to share with Russian Federation (at an openly scheduled W.H. meeting) which I have the absolute right to do, facts pertaining to terrorism and airline flight safety".

Mark Warner, D-Virginia, say they have not yet heard from the White House on Trump's meeting with the Russian officials.

Mr Comey, who as FBI director was leading an investigation into links between the Trump campaign team and Russian Federation, was sacked by Mr Trump last week.

According to The Washington Post, Trump described details to Lavrov and Kislyak about how ISIS hopes to use laptop computers as bombs on planes. But it's protected by the constitutional power that comes with getting elected president of the United States. He is not a reality TV star. An increasing number of Republicans, too, have joined in calling for Congress to dig deeper, especially after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey who had been leading the bureau's probe.
