  • Cosby Jury Asks 2 More Questions As Deliberations Continue

A SMILE broke out over Bill Cosby's face when jurors told a judge they were deadlocked in the disgraced funnyman's sex assault trial overnight.

Dozens and dozens of women have accused Cosby of sexual assault, many in very similar ways to that of his criminal accuser, Andrea Constand. Some of them looked defeated as the judge sent them back to the jury room.

The jury deliberations have stretched across four days.

Cosby's spokesman said Thursday the impasse showed that jurors doubted Constand's story.

Lawyers for Bill Cosby demanded that a judge declare a mistrial in the entertainer's sexual assault case on Friday, complaining that jurors were essentially rehearing the entire week of trial testimony as their deliberations passed the 45-hour mark.

The judge also explained to Cosby the exact meaning of "mistrial" after concerns about his publicist's comments on the case, referring to it as a "win" and "victory".

The jury tells the judge that it "cannot come to a unanimous consensus on any of the counts".

The trial began on June 5, and the jury began deliberating Monday evening.

Such scrutiny remained largely absent from the sexual assault trial of CBC Radio broadcaster Jian Ghomeshi, where the focus veered toward the complainants' behaviour after the alleged assaults, of which Ghomeshi was acquitted past year.

"We can not come to a unanimous consensus on any of the counts", the jury said in a note to Judge Steven O'Neill in Norristown, Pennsylvania. He says Cosby was cute and clever with the children and talked to them in Italian.

Wyatt added a note of caution, saying: "We just hope right now that these jurors are still being treated the way they should be treated - that no one will come in and try to have them change their decision, change heir thoughts, change their minds". "If i conveyed you were to go back and continue to work, I apologize". Several of the accusers have been in court all week awaiting a verdict, including the woman at the center of the trial, Andrea Constand. However, this month's trial marked the first time Cosby faced criminal charges; the statute of limitations had expired in virtually all of the other cases.

Wyatt said Cosby is resting and has informed his wife, Camille, to inform her of the deadlock.

Prosecutors say his prior use of Quaaludes shows that Cosby had knowledge of what he was doing when he gave her the pills.

Jurors who have appeared stressed and even angry seemed more upbeat as they left court outside Philadelphia Thursday night than on previous nights, despite enduring another marathon session.

Johnson testified that Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in 1996, while Cosby acknowledged in depositions that he gave young women sedatives in the 1970s.

Throughout the week of deliberation, the jury paused at least six times to review key evidence - including Cosby's admission that he did indeed fondle Constand after giving her pills.

The case has already helped demolish Cosby's nice-guy reputation as "America's Dad".

Prosecutors say Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted Constand, a former Temple University employee, at his Pennsylvania home in January 2004.
