  • Grenfell residents in ‘passionate angry’ exchanges with PM at Downing Street

A huge fire started at the 24-floor Grenfell Tower in North Kensington on June 14, engulfing the entire building and trapping nearly 120 families inside.

Public anger is mounting as residents and neighbors demand answers for how the blaze early Wednesday spread so quickly and trapped so numerous tower's 600-odd residents.

"This is an incredible distressing time for families and they have my commitment that we will do this as quickly as we possibly can", he said. Hands cautioned that officials don't yet have exact details about the renovation that ended just previous year.

She added: "This will be a detailed fingertip search".

It was reported that the material used in the cladding covering Grenfell was Reynobond PE - a cheaper, more flammable version of two available options. Experts believe the aluminum composite panels, which contain a plastic insulation material, may have helped spread the flames quickly up the outside of the tower.

Labour Party lawmaker David Lammy said that the government and the police should immediately seize all documents relating to the building's renovation to prevent the destruction of evidence that could show criminal wrongdoing.

"The response of the emergency services, NHS [National Health Service] and the community has been heroic", May said in a statement released Saturday after the prime minister met with victims and community leaders.

Mr Cundy said it was already clear that the total number of the dead "will be higher" than the figure previously given by police but said he would not "speculate" on a figure.

Mr Cundy said the police investigation into the blaze would look at the building and its refurbishment in 2016 and vowed to prosecute people "if there is evidence". He has not provided details about the inquiry.

Speaking on Peston on Sunday, Parti said volunteers have been unable to get access to the money, and said: "Kensington and Chelsea [Council] are giving ten pounds to the survivors when they go to the hotels...a tenner".

But the company that installed the Grenfell cladding, Harley Facades Limited, said it was "not aware of any link between the fire and the exterior cladding to the tower".

The presumed death toll from the London tower block inferno jumped to 58 on Saturday as embattled Prime Minister Theresa May, accused of misreading the growing anger over the tragedy, pledged action after meeting survivors desperately seeking answers.

His family said Alhajali "came to the United Kingdom because he had ambitions and aims for his life and for his family".

Authorities increased the count Monday after spending the weekend working with families to identify all those who are missing and believed to have died inside the 24-story Grenfell Tower, as well as the five victims that have been formally identified, Metropolitan Police Commander Stuart Cundy told reporters.

Officials are using dental records, fingerprints, DNA samples, tattoos and scars to try and positively identify victims. He says it will take weeks or longer to recover and identify all the dead at the building.
