76ers get No. 1 pick from Celtics, chance to draft Fultz

The Celtics move down to number three and also land a "favorably-protected" future first round pick. Washington point guard Markelle Fultz has always been widely regarded as the best draft prospect, who Philadelphia is now expected to pick, but Ainge indicated Monday that his team's evaluation was not so clear-cut. However, Jackson is an intriguing option for the Celtics at No.3. They are in position to contend for a championship right away, but it will take superstar talent to deliver a more effective punch to the LeBron James-led Cavaliers than Boston could in the 2017 playoffs. He added, "It was the best offer we had, by a significant margin, and we're still able to get the player that we want in the draft, and acquire another asset". I have a good relationship with Bryan Colangelo and Jerry Colangelo and I think they're doing a fantastic job there in Philadelphia.

There is the outside chance the Celtics hold onto the third pick and select one of Washington's Markelle Fultz, UCLA's Lonzo Ball or Kansas' Josh Jackson.

It will mark the second straight year that Philadelphia selects first overall.

The Celtics might be good, but that prospective Sixers lineup of Fultz, Embiid, Simmons, and Jahlil Okafor is exciting as shit. The teams agreed to the deal over the weekend, hours after expected top pick Markelle Fultz worked out for the Sixers.

And that means the Celtics could be gearing up for more moves soon. Ainge said it was "possible" that Boston could make another deal before the draft, but described the swap as "a jump-start" for the Celtics. Durant opted out of about $28 million to become a free agent briefly in an effort to help Golden State re-sign sixth-man extraordinaire Andre Iguodala.

There are some conditions on the future first-rounder Boston gets out of this deal. He shot 47.6 percent, averaged along with 5.9 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals over 25 games during his freshman season with the Huskies, who posted a 9-22 record. Boston would get the more favorable of those two selections, but not No. 1.

The Celtics now have a few days to decide what they want to do with the No. 3 pick. His decision to join another team has forced the Pacers to aggressively enter trade negotiations in hopes of receiving a return investment on their 2010 draft pick.

"History suggests that number one has the greatest odds of producing franchise-level talent and we are confident that this year's draft class has that very potential".

"We felt that the value of adding the one pick now was the right thing at the expense of only losing one of four (in 2018 and '19) going forward", he said.
