  • Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was rumoured to be considering a move

Fueled by anger at more tax evasion talk in Spain, Ronaldo is reportedly trying to engineer an exit from Real Madrid.

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane broke off his holiday to call Cristiano Ronaldo in a bid to persuade his unsettled star not to quit the club, Spanish sports daily Marca claimed yesterday.

Perez, who began his second spell in 2009 and has overseen three Champions League wins in the last four years, has barely had to contend with any rivals for his post since the Liga club changed internal rules for presidential candidates in 2012.

There is still a chance that Perez could comment on Ronaldo's situation on Monday evening during an interview he is scheduled to conduct with Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

Ronaldo was named man of the match in his country's Confederations Cup game with Mexico but failed to attend the press conference which comes with the award, speaking only about the game in a brief interview with Federation Internationale de Football Association.

Ronaldo has said that he will leave Spain and play for Elsewhere.

Prosecutors in Madrid have filed a complaint in which they accused Ronaldo of a "voluntary" and "conscious" breach of his tax obligations, amounting to a figure of €14.7million. "He will tell us what has happened.(.) The only thing I know is that he feels mistreated by the media".

Ronaldo was a world-record signing of intent from United after Perez returned as president eight years ago, the forward being part of a £225million summer spending spree that also saw the likes of Kaka, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso move to Real.

"He has a contract and he needs to complete it".
