  • Cleveland Cavaliers Interested In Paul George Even As A Rental

What all of this means, of course, is that an offer for George would likely start with the combination of Tristan Thompson, Iman Shumpert and an additional asset (either a draft pick or Cedi Osman), or could include a third team who would be willing to take on these players-say, Phoenix?-while sending something younger and more long term back to IN to pair with Myles Turner, who would suddenly become the Pacers' building block of the future.

According to The Vertical, George, through his agent, Aaron Mintz, is telling the Pacers of his plans now so they can plan for the future.

Indiana Pacers superstar Paul George has reportedly told the Indiana Pacers that he plans to leave the franchise in free agency during the summer of 2018.

In 75 games with the Pacers this season, George averaged 23.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. He has played for the Pacers since being selected by IN with the 10th pick of the 2010 draft. With George letting IN know that he plans to pursue free agency IN 2018, the new Pacers front office, led by general manager Kevin Pritchard, is determined to move the All-Star forward this offseason. With the No. 2 overall pick likely to be Lonzo Ball, a nice little core around D'Angelo Russell, Ball, George, Jordan Clarkson, and Brandon Ingram allows them lots of options around the wing and even more in the trade market. Those are numbers that any team would like to have from their starting small forward during the 2017-18 National Basketball Association season.

So George will move elsewhere, and his legacy will become the diminished return the Pacers score in return for the one-year of his services. Knowing the star plans to leave one year from now, the Pacers will nearly be forced to move him. What's against George being dealt there is Los Angeles having to give up the assets, but the question is which assets? When George informed the Pacers that he would be testing free agency in 2018, he also told them that his preferred destination was the Lakers.

Was Magic referring to the report about Paul George?

Paul George wants to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, eventually.

"It will be tough, but when I get there hopefully I will be ready to sit down with my family, be ready to sit down with people close to me to make that decision", he said.

Since George joined the Pacers in 2010, they've been to the playoffs every year but one - when George missed nearly all of 2014-15 recovering from a broken leg.

But as mentioned above, things could drastically change for George in Season 2018-19 with relation on his quest for an NBA Finals appearance and subsequently secure a win. Love is under contract for two more seasons. It just didn't make any sense.
