CNN files lawsuit seeking access to Trump-Comey conversations

The memo sent Thursday asks for records related to foreign travel, contacts with Russian "officials, agents or nationals" and background investigations into the top Trump associates now targeted by Mueller's probe.

In another development, members of Trump's transition team that served him after he was elected in November until he took office in January have been ordered to preserve materials related to the Russian Federation matter, the New York Times reported.

Trump on Thursday fired of a series of tweets describing the Russian Federation investigation as a "witch hunt" and he inquired to as to why Hillary Clinton's alleged dealings with Russian Federation were not being investigated.

Trump did not directly address the allegations that he is being probed for possibly obstructing justice - a potentially impeachable offense. Brand is more like Trump Supreme Court appointee Neil Gorsuch: a high-powered conservative appellate lawyer who clerked for the U.S. Supreme Court, worked in the George W. Bush administration, and is prominent in Federalist Society circles.

"I can go around them", the tweet read. Citing a memo from the general counsel's office of Trump's transition team, the Times said members were given the order on Thursday for any information involving Russian Federation or Ukraine in the latest sign of the investigation's expanding reach.

A source familiar with the Mueller investigation confirmed the report, saying an examination of possible obstruction of justice charges was "unavoidable" given testimony by former FBI Director James Comey, although the issue may not become the focus of the probe. The Washington Post report suggests that scrutiny has been folded into the special counsel office and includes Kushner's business dealings, though it offers no details on what that scrutiny is. The attorney general was at a White House meeting when the notification came from Rosenstein, prompting the enraged President to scold the attorney general for the turn of events.

Vice President Mike Pence has also hired a private lawyer to represent his interests in the expanding probe.

Although White House officials tried earlier this week to tamp down speculation that Trump might try to fire Mueller, the escalating conflict led members of Congress of both parties to warn Trump Thursday against the temptation to do so.

Ditching derogatory rhetoric about the Washington "swamp", Trump rallied in support of his fellow politicians and called on the country to pull together.

Comey said he typed notes describing the conversations because he was anxious Trump "might lie" later about them.

Senate Republicans were surprised and miffed by Chuck Grassley's decision to open a Judiciary Committee investigation into the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, The Hill reported.

As the legal rope has tightened, Trump's allies have gone on the offensive, questioning Mueller's credibility and floating the idea he may be fired. Still, the snowballing investigation has deeply angered Trump, who denies he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation.

"The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal", said Mark Corallo, Kasowitz's spokesman.

Trump also trained his fire on one-time rival Hillary Clinton.

"Crooked H destroyed phones w/ hammer, "bleached" emails, & had husband meet w/AG days before she was cleared- & they talk about obstruction?" He is reportedly interviewing three top intelligence officials - Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers and retired deputy NSA director Richard Ledgett - as part of the probe as early as this week.

Trump also attacked the media Friday morning.
