Floyd Mayweather Opens as Heavy Betting Favorite Over Conor McGregor

20 June, 2017, 12:58 | Author: Alberta Rodriguez

The powers that be took measures to make sure Conor McGregor doesn't use any MMA strikes or moves during his pay-per-view boxing match against Floyd Mayweather on august 26 in Las Vegas.

The 40-year-old Mayweather will be aiming to reach the 50-0 milestone while McGregor is a heavy underdog in the 12-round boxing match.

Mayweather said that a confidentiality clause is in place and that the financial purses of the fighters will not be disclosed. It is absolutely remarkable that Conor McGregor, in a relatively short amount of time, became the biggest money fight for Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather's hotly anticipated 2015 bout against Pacquiao is estimated to have pulled in a record 4.5m American buyers of its $100 pay-per-view package, $79m in ticket sales at the MGM Arena, $20m from commercial deals, $70m from betting. Given that the fight will not contain any aspect of MMA fighting, it is likely that McGregor will be disadvantaged against Mayweather whose entire career has been fought according to boxing rules. Mayweather, meanwhile, won one of the biggest fights of his life when he jumped up in weight to fight Oscar de la Hoya for the 154-pound belt in 2007. Showtime will air the Pay-Per-View which promises to be phenomenal. "When you go out and you put everything on line - I've said this about Floyd Mayweather for years: He loves money, loves money, but that record is actually, I think, more important to him than money".

Ronda Rousey of the U.S. (left) faces-off with compatriot Holly Holm for the UFC fight in Melbourne on November 13, 2015. At the end of the day, these two guys wanted this fight, the fans wanted this fight, and Conor is a mixed martial artist going into a boxing match with arguably the greatest boxer of all time.

"It's a very good opportunity to show an MMA fighter is a well-rounded fighter, they can win in MMA fights, and also in boxing", Li said through a translator. I think that fight was so big and everybody was going so insane about it, that a lot of mistakes were made that cost them money, which is hilarious to say because that's the biggest money-making fight of all time. It's a risk, it's unsafe and I want to see it. McGregor, is 27 and a southpaw.

Knowing this, there's a piece of me that wants to see McGregor knock Mayweather out.

CONOR McGregor has finally confirmed the date he will face off against his long-term rival Floyd MayWeather.
