Grenfell Tower: 79 presumed dead in London fire

Sixteen bodies have been taken to a mortuary for examination.

Police said Saturday that 30 people had been confirmed dead since the fire, while another 28 remain missing and are presumed dead.

"Come and meet the wonderful people that I've met".

But accusations of a slow official response have heaped pressure on the premier, whose Conservative government remains in limbo after losing its parliamentary majority in last week's election.

The Sunday Telegraph says Theresa May will face a "stalking horse" challenge to topple her as prime minister if she "waters down" Brexit.

The British government has announced a 5 million-pound ($6.3 million) emergency fund for the victims.

In an interview with the BBC late Friday, May insisted she was "deeply affected" by the "horrifying" stories of survivors, and repeated that she was determined to help. "This was a awful tragedy that took place". At least 30 people have been killed, hundreds of others have been left homeless and dozens of others are missing.

"How the f*** are we going to get them out of there?" But it is a bad tragedy.

Commander Cundy also formally identified the first victim of the fire as 23-year-old Mohammed Alhajali.

The queen and her husband, Prince Philip, stood silently on the steps of Buckingham Palace before the start of the Trooping the Color ceremony that each year marks the queen's official birthday, which is traditionally celebrated in June when the weather is warm. This year, however, it is very hard to escape a very sombre national mood.

She said that during her recent visits to Manchester, the site of the suicide bombing last month which claimed 22 lives, and London-the scene of a terror attack earlier this month and most recently the massive fire - she has been "profoundly struck by the immediate inclination of people throughout the country to offer comfort and support to those in desperate need".

Cundy said there may have been other people in the tower that police are not aware of, which would add to the final death toll.

The Grenfell Tower in west London, built in the 1970s and renovated several times, contains 120 homes.

Some wore T-shirts with images of missing loved ones as they climbed the front steps and pushed their way into the building.

It developed an nearly festive atmosphere, with locals providing free food and revellers in pubs and residents on balconies standing up and applauding as the protesters walked by. The protesters eventually made their way to busy Oxford Circus, where they staged a sit-in.

Sadiq Khan and his wife Saadiya.

Protesters are demanding to know why long-standing fire safety concerns raised by a tenants' group about the public housing tower, tucked in the city's ritzy North Kensington neighborhood, had not been addressed. "The investigation will be extensive, my intention is that we will help provide answers".

The government on Saturday promised a public inquiry and police have opened a criminal investigation. A team of senior detectives is investigating. No sprinkler system was installed.

Lammy, who lost a friend in the fire - talented young artist Khadija Saye - also said that the residents' treatment by the authorities had been "absolutely appalling", with volunteers stepping in to help instead.

London's fire department says that the reason for the subway closure near the high-rise fire disaster is because of a "short-term risk of some debris falling onto the tracks".

One was Gloria Trevisan, 26, an Italian architect living in London because her family was having financial difficulties back in Italy.

He said: "I've spent time with the local community, not just the Christian congregation, but members of all faiths here at the church, grieving, sharing their stories".

Mohammad Al-Hajali, 23, a refugee who fled Syria for the United Kingdom in 2014, was identified as another victim.
