  • HRW: fifty years of human rights violations in West Bank

The U.N. leader said only a two-state solution would "achieve the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people".

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern with Israel's "occupation" in the disputed territories on the Gregorian calendar's 50th anniversary of the start of the Six-Day War, which saw Israel take control over eastern Jerusalem, the West Bank, the Golan Heights, the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula from June 5-10.

In the 1967 war, Israel occupied the West Bank and the Gaza Strip and subsequently annexed east Jerusalem, in a move never recognised by the worldwide community.

Among them are generation after generation of Palestinians who have been compelled to grow-up and live in ever more crowded refugee camps, many in abject poverty, and with little or no prospect of a better life for their children, he added.

He says the occupation fuels "recurring cycles of violence and retribution", sending a message to Palestinians that statehood is just a dream and to Israelis that peace and regional recognition remain "unattainable".

Almost 400,000 Palestinians were added to the hundreds of thousands of refugees displaced in 1948 and their homes and villages were razed to the ground by the Israelis.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for ending of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories since 1967 and urged the worldwide community for negotiating a two-state solution to resolve the conflict between the two Middle Eastern neighbours.

Guterres criticized Israel's military control of Palestinian areas, saying it endangers both Israelis and Palestinians. APN's mission is to educate and persuade the American public and its leadership to support and adopt policies that will lead to comprehensive, durable, Israeli-Palestinian and Israeli-Arab peace, based on a two-state solution, guaranteeing both peoples security, and consistent with US national interests.

Trump visited Israel and the Palestinian territories last month, calling on both side to make compromises for peace but offering no specifics on how to resolve the 50-year-old conflict.

"Almost seven decades later, the world still awaits the birth of an independent Palestinian state". We also work to ensure Israel's future and the viability of Israel's democracy and Jewish character through education, activism and advocacy in the United States, and by mobilizing American support for Shalom Achshav.
