No need for alarm bells after draw, says Ronaldo

Yesterday, Mexico began its Confederations Cup run with an eventful 2-2 draw against Portugal.

"We have to win, because if we win the next game, we will be one step away from qualifying (for the semi-finals)".

But Portugal s talisman was at his best in an action-packed first half in his team s opening match, with hosts Russian Federation and New Zealand still to come in the group.

Ronaldo said on Fifa TV: "It's not the result that we wanted".

After the game's second review, the goal and three points for Chile were confirmed.

"If this is going to happen several times during a game, well it's not very pleasant for the players, " Cameroun coach Hugo Broos said.Count Vidal among the current skeptics.

Ronaldo added: "We are calm and we have to think about the next game".

"Those are the rules and if they benefit football, great", Santos said in the news conference afterwards.

The Besiktas winger drew Mexico s goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and tapped home the opening goal.

"We know we didn't play well", he said.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo did not join his team on the pitch on Monday as he and some other players were allowed a break after Sunday's match. Chile players had done their choreographed goal celebration routine and were moving back into position for the restart when referee Skomina signaled for a review.

A last-gasp equaliser by Hector Moreno saved the day for them after Cedric seemed to have won the game for the European champions with a goal five minutes from time.

Argentine referee Nestor Pitana disallowed a goal by Portugal's Pepe in the 21st minute of the first half after consulting the video assistant referee, reported Efe.

Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio was satisfied with his team's performance and particularly the way they kept Ronaldo quiet - even if he did somewhat strangely still win the Man-of-the-Match award for his only two pieces of positive intervention: hitting the crossbar and providing the assist for Ricardo Quaresma's opening goal.

Portugal were ahead for just eight minutes, though, until Hernandez planted a close-range diving header in on 42 minutes.

There were concerns that the match could be suspended after warnings from Federation Internationale de Football Association against homophobic chants by Mexican fans, but they were only heard a couple of times during the match and did not cause any disruption.
