Ronaldo, 32, is said to want to leave Spain after being accused of tax fraud. "There is no turning back".

Newly re-elected Real Madrid president Florentino Perez admits his club are "following" striker Kylian Mbappe, but says the 18-year-old is still a Monaco player.

The 70-year-old businessman called for an election earlier this month, but no one could run against him.

In quotes published on Marca's website, Perez said: "We have built a legendary team with the best players from Spain and the world, but also with many players from our youth academy".

Do you think Ronaldo will be on the move or will he remain at Real Madrid?

The world's top clubs are ready to scramble for Ronaldo's signature including his former club United, who want to be title challengers again.

Spanish radio station Onda Cero say Perez was to "give his version of the 'Ronaldo case"' in an interview with them late last night, while an event marking his re-election was scheduled to be held at 7:30pm at the Bernabeu's presidential box.

"I will speak to him after the Confederations Cup".

Upon hearing the news, the Real boss reportedly immediately phoned his player, who is now with Portugal at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Russian Federation, to discover the real reasons behind his decision to make his intentions public.

United are also aware of how things played out four years ago when Alex Ferguson retired and they believed that his successor David Moyes would be presented with Ronaldo as a marquee signing. Their tease to promote it was this quote: "Ronaldo is a Real Madrid player and will continue to be".

"He always told me he is at ease in Real Madrid". PSG could make a bid, but it seems like Ronaldo has his heart set on Manchester United.

For all the words written and spoken about the four-time Champions League victor, the only people who really know are Ronaldo himself and long-time adviser Jorge Mendes.
