Qatar says it will not negotiate unless neighbours lift 'blockade'

Sheikh Saif bin Ahmed Al Thani, director of Qatar's Government Communications Office, said in a statement that the blockade, now entering its third week, is tearing at the social fabric of the Gulf.

The four rival Arab states cut diplomatic and transport links with Qatar on June 5, accusing the nation of funding Islamist terrorism, something it denies.

On June 4, the four Gulf countries made a decision to sever ties with Qatar over its alleged funding of terrorist groups. Egypt emphasized that today in a meeting with the crown price of Abu Dhabi, claiming that the support for terror in the region involves providing them "media cover".

Turkey has criticized the decision and authorized the deployment of additional troops to Qatar in a show of support. Qatar has strenuously rejected the accusations.

"We can not just have (vague) demands such as 'the Qataris know what we want from them, they have to stop this or that, they have to be monitored by a foreign monitoring mechanism, '" Sheikh Mohammed said.

Qatar, meanwhile, said it will not negotiate with its neighbors to resolve the crisis unless they lift the trade and travel boycott they imposed two weeks ago.

"Qatar will realize that this is a new state of affairs and isolation can last years", Anwar Gargash UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs told a group of reporters in Paris.

The Qatar crisis is the beginning of a fight for hegemony in the region, Ilyas Al Najimi, an analyst for Algeria's Echorouk TV channel, told Trend.

Qatar Air is "making sure that all our business streams are properly documented in order for us in future to go to worldwide tribunals to reflect the pain", Al Baker said yesterday.

For Margolis the Saudi-Qatari diplomatic crisis was another example of a USA leader, with only comic book knowledge of the region, mucking things up royally. "This will also be a trial run for our ability no one else has to draw out tens of millions of people on an issue", he said.

He called for Western nations including the United States, France, Germany and Britain to help monitor any agreement reached with Qatar to ensure they are not cooperating with jihadists.

Last week, a number of states bordering on Qatar broke off diplomatic relations, closed their airspace and borders, and expelled Qatari citizens.

"Why they didn't submit their demands yet?"
