The 15-episode season will be released in two chapters.

Star Trek: Discovery hasn't had a smooth start, which is something of a tradition with Star Trek series.

Immediately following the show's premiere, the second episode will be available on CBS All Access.

If this is all news to you, then you should know that Star Trek, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, is returning to television 50 years after it first premiered with "Star Trek: Discovery". Canadian viewers will then be able to tune into subsequent episodes of Star Trek: Discovery every week on Space or stream the show via Crave TV.

At long last, though, CBS has announced a premiere date for Star Trek: Discovery and revealed plans for the first season rollout.

Of course, you have to be a CBS All Access subscriber to see the episodes. Those who are subscribed on premiere night will be able to watch the first and second episodes online September 24. Partly it was waiting for star Sonequa Green-Martin to finish with her commitments to The Walking Dead, but more than anything it was the intense work put into building the world of Star Trek: Discovery.

Other key roles include James Frain (True Blood) as Spock's father Sarek, Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) as captain of the U.S.S. Shenzhou and Rainn Wilson (The Office) as intergalactic criminal Harry Mudd.

While there may not be much of a natural crossover between Star Trek and Big Brother, the reason that the timing of this premiere makes sense is tied back to how All Access subscriptions. Fuller was originally meant to be Discovery's showrunner but was forced step down due to commitments to Starz' adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods.

A key CBS executive has already expressed hesitation about the project as a whole, claiming that, for some odd reason, he doesn't believe that a science fiction show can do well on network television.
