Wind, solar energy have not harmed US power grid -industry study

  • Think Wind Turbines and Solar Panels Are Fads? Think Again

According to the report from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), wind power made up 8 percent and solar made up 2 percent of all US electricity in March of this year, based on its monthly data.

The ten percent figure is encouraging, but the peak this time of year is somewhat expected.

It also said there is no evidence to show that wind and solar energy are threatening the reliability of the electric grid.

The report said the costs of renewable power were expected to continue to fall, with the cost of solar tipped to fall by 66 percent by 2040. Sixty percent of new power-generating capacity put online in 2016 came from wind and solar. It is usually highest in spring due to the combined effect of increasing daylight hours and seasonal wind patterns. But past year, in some states, wind and solar made up significantly more than 10 percent of monthly electricity generation. Across the U.S.in 2016, natural gas accounted for 34 percent of electricity generation, coal accounted for 31 percent, nuclear power for 20 percent and renewables for 15 percent. However, it's unlikely that renewables will make up the lion's share of energy generation anytime soon, reports Sarah Gibbens at National Geographic. As per Dr Sanjay Tiwari, Coordinator Renewable Energy Technology & Management (RETM), this undergraduate B Voc course is entirely different from all other UG programme running in India as it gives flexibility to the students by means of pre-defined entry and multiple exit points.

Today, coal accounts for over 40% of the world's electricity production. ISS also sells electricity at cut rate prices to Corporate America through corporate Purchase Power Agreements (PPA's).

According to Ian Johnston at The Independent, renewable energy is on the rise. The report, which looks at how fuel and electricity markets will evolve by 2040, estimates that renewable energy is taking hold globally faster than many energy experts believe.

Despite President Trump's plans to expand oil pipelines and withdraw the USA from the Paris climate Agreement, the report suggests that no one can stop the global progression of renewable energy.
