  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 platform announced at MWC Shanghai 2017

This is also the first processor in the Snapdragon 400 series to be manufactured on a 14nm FinFET process. It is an octa-core chipset featuring four Cortex A53 cores working 1.8 GHz and another set of four Cortex A53 cores gunning at 1.8 GHz.

Qualcomm says it's the first time its 400-range of processors support Real-time Bokeh, which is the ability to blur the background of a photo in real time, allowing you to see just how your photo will turn out before you hit the shutter button. It is also created to improve on previous generations by including support for enhanced dual camera at 13+13MP, or single camera support up to 21MP; hybrid autofocus; and 1080p video capture and playback at up to 60fps, enabling slow motion capture.

Qualcomm has today introduced a new family member to its Snapdragon 400 mobile platform - the all new Snapdragon 450. The 450 includes the Snapdragon X9 LTE modem, which can hit peak speeds of 300Mbps downlink and 150Mbps uplink.

Android Police reports that the Qualcomm 450 will include a new Hexagon 546 DSP which will be up to five times more efficient than the DSP used in previous-gen 400-series chips. Qualcomm mentions that the Snapdragon 450 can support smartphones with screen resolutions of up to FHD+ with 18:9 aspect ratio. It also comes with support for Quick Charge 3.0 technology for rapid charging.

Moreover, Qualcomm Technologies announced Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensors, ultrasonic fingerprint solutions consisting of sensors for Display, Glass and Metal, detection of directional gestures, and underwater fingerprint match and device wake-up. That compares to the 28nm process that the Snapdragon 435 uses, and gives devices powered by the Snapdragon 450 chip four additional hours of battery life.

"With the Snapdragon 450, users are going to see a dramatically improved level of performance, connectivity, battery life and imaging performance, said Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, in a press statement". The Snapdragon 450 also comes with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support, which can charge a typical smartphone from zero to 80 percent in about 35 minutes.

In a press briefing, a Qualcomm spokesperson noted that consumers could expect to see numerous same brands release budget devices on the 450 platform, likely in the range of $125 to $250 Dollars.

The latest one from Qualcomm - the Snapdragon 450 will be made available for commercial use to the OEMs in the third quarter of this year.
