Sigurdsson featured in Swansea's 1-0 defeat to Barnet on Wednesday and informed Clement he did not want to travel with the squad to America the next morning.

According to BBC Sport, the Toffees have made a bid of £40 million for the Iceland worldwide midfielder, but it has been rejected as the Swans want £50m for him.

Sigurdsson had been left in South Wales after reports revealed that he would not be part of the club's travelling party for their pre-season tour of the USA amid allegations that an Everton transfer was imminent. The fans want that, the owners would like that but, ultimately, there's a business side to football as well.

"We had that situation with Jack Cork (who Swansea sold to Burnley on Tuesday)".

Swansea also encouraged their most influential player to reconsider his decision not to join the U.S. tour and, in echoes of Southampton's reaction to Liverpool's pursuit of Virgil van Dijk, suggested Everton may have contravened Premier League rules with an illegal approach to Sigurdsson.

He went on to say: "That might end up being the case with Gylfi".

The 27-year-old played a pivotal role in keeping the Swans in the top flight last season, scoring nine goals and creating 13 others, and has been linked with a move to Everton. Let us know in the comments!

Sigurdsson joined Swansea from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2014, and has scored 37 times in 128 appearances for the club.

Sigurdsson's King Power snub will be a blow to the Foxes faithful who had voted the star as their most wanted player at the club this summer.

Instead of travelling to the US, Gylfi Sigurdsson will hold talks with Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins.

Swansea play Philadelphia Union in the first match of their Stateside tour on Saturday before further games against Richmond Kickers and North Carolina.
