Nintendo doesn't seem to have halted production of the Nintendo 3DS XL but it will be interesting to see how long it continues to do that before making the very same decision that it has confirmed today.

The news comes via Japanese Nintendo and is backed up by the official page, which states "all production ended".

Australia was lucky enough to receive the New Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL just a month after its Japanese launch in October 2014, the rest of the world didn't get the console until January 2015.

Video game stories from other sites on the web. That's happened again, as the company has announced that production of the New 3DS has ceased. The console itself is nearly three years old and is losing out on sales to Nintendo's very own 2DS XL. Presumably, with the New Nintendo 2DS XL taking the slot of a budget priced offering in the 3DS lineup, the New 3DS was thought to be redundant. Despite numerous promises from Nintendo that the Switch would not be the successor to the 3DS family, the speculation about their relationship is still earning a side eye from some tired consumers.
