Manchester United's Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic reacts after falling awkwardly during the UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg football match between Manchester United and Anderlecht at Old Trafford in Manchester, north west England, on April 20, 2017.

And after deciding against extending his deal due to the double cruciate ligament rupture, Manchester United are hopeful of securing a return.

Striker Ibrahimovic is a free agent but it now recovering from knee surgery at the club's training ground.

Mourinho said on the matter: "It's possible".

Nevertheless, the Belgian - who used to wear the number 10 - told ESPN: "I always asked my mother what number, and I used to play with the 10 because my mother's birthday is on October 10, so it's the 10th month of the year".

But Galaxy are about to face stiff competition from new MLS outfit Los Angeles FC who are looking to sign a marquee name to start off their time in the league next year.

United were plotting to bring in another striker to ease the burden on £75million signing Romelu Lukaku.

Despite being released by United last month, the 35-year-old has stayed in Cheshire full-time to regain his fitness.

However, his competitive nature and unfinished business in Manchester will mean he will more than likely sign another short-term deal to play for Jose Mourinho once more, after announcing on his Instagram page there will be a "big announcement" regarding his future.

Mourinho added: "We wanted to let him make a decision - space and time to think and decide". He was not happy in the way he finished the season.

"He didn't want to hide behind an incredible injury". So he wants to challenge himself and keep playing still at the highest level. Let's hope we seem him back in action in a shirt of his own choosing soon.
