'39 Indians abducted in Iraq could be in jail near Mosul'

In her first briefing after the liberation of Mosul from the IS, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday informed the family members of the missing nationals, that the latest information was provided by a high-level official of Iraq and more information about them would be known when her Iraqi counterpart, Ibrahim Al Jaafari, visits India on July 24.

They have been knocking the doors of the government since reports of the abductions came in.

Families of 39 Indians abducted in Iraq by the Islamic State are hopeful that their loved ones would be re-united with them.

The minister told family members of the men, who had been abducted by terror group Islmaic State from Mosul, about information received by Minister of State for External Affairs, V. K. Singh, who had gone to to Iraq.

"Only after the area is cleared in Badush can we get more information about their location and their well being", she said, adding that she personally gave that information to the families of the missing Indians.

He added that every family was waiting for good news.

Earlier they told that they have inputs that all youth are in a church in Mosul but now they say their input was not right.

The Shiite militia has been supporting government troops and is focused on rebuilding instead of fighting the few remaining terrorists putting up a fight.
