The case, which took place last November, was published in the British Medical Journal.

Ophthalmologists in England made a shocking discovery while trying to operate on a patient last year-the woman had 27 contact lenses still in her eye.

She told Optometry Today: "It was such a large mass". She didn't report symptoms that could be linked to the lost lenses. "Today, while it is easier to order contact lenses online, the patients are far more lax about the monitoring visits, she said". Part of their surprise, she said, was because the patient hadn't complained of any irritation.

"When we review 2 weeks later, she recognized feel much less discomfort", says Dr. Morjaria, who attributes the loss of these lenses to a more low from the right eye and sunken eyes.

The pensioner, 67, was completely unaware that the lenses were missing and told surgeons she thought the discomfort was simply down to her old age.

In a freakish incident, an eye specialist in the United Kingdom found 27 contact lenses stuck in the eye of a woman, media reports said.

Outside of that one single glob of contact lenses, there were ten other lenses in the woman's eye.

According to the publication, ophthalmologists, which were to remove cataracts the woman, admitted that none of them over the years, the practice has not encountered such a thing.

She added, "Because she had harboured these contact lenses in her eye for an unknown length of time, if we had operated she would have had a lot of bacteria around her conjunctiva".

The patient, who has not been named, had her cataract surgery postponed following the discovery.

Optometry Australia encourages contact lens wearers to have eye examinations every 12 months to detect and correct any potential eye problems due to contact lens wear early. As well, she said that she didn't attend to regular optometrist appointments.
