  • Presidential Election 2017: Electors Are Using These Special Ink Pens to Cast Their Votes Today

The result will be out on July 20. The present incumbent Pranab Mukherjee, will demit office on July 25. "The rumours that NCP MPs and MLAs are voting for the NDA presidential candidate are false".

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya and Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar - all Parliamentarians - and all but three Parliamentarians of the Trinamool Congress will cast their vote in their respective home states - Uttar Pradesh, Goa and West Bengal. All the political parties need to be congratulated. "Now, I will get an opportunity to work with Mr. Kovind", the Prime Minister reportedly said at the pre-monsoon session meeting of the ruling alliance, which happens to have come just before the election. The Untouchability-free India campaign 2047, initiated by city-based NGO Navsarjan Trust which works for the upliftment of the Dalit community, will be launched at Nani Devti village on Sanand-Bavla road in Ahmedabad on Saturday. If it's just about numbers then why are we going through the whole process. In vice-presidential polls, however, it is supporting Gopalkrishna Gandhi. Is that Ram Nath Kovind or Meira Kumar? Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik's Biju Janata Dal too has backed the NDA candidate.

Besides the NDA constituents, who constitute 48% of the electoral college, Kovind has received support from the AIADMK, TRS, YSR Congress, BJD and JD (U). "Today, the collegium will take a decision and you all know I am a candidate in this contest to fight the battle of ideology", Kumar said. "Vote to uphold constitutional values of our republic", - Sitaram Yechury (Secretary General of the Communist Party of India).

Kovind's opponent, Kumar, is the daughter of freedom fighter Babu Jagjivan Ram.

On Sunday, at the NDA parliamentary party meeting, Mr Modi also asked leaders to promote and highlight the 75th anniversary of the Quit India movement and hold events and programme about it from August 9 to 15. Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra was the first to cast his vote followed by deputy leader of the Congress Legislature Party Chiranjib Biswal, Congress MLAs Debendra Sharma and Naba Kishore Das.

"We can not and must not let India be hostage to those who wish to impose upon it a narrow-minded, divisive and communal vision", Gandhi said, in an apparent reference to allegations that the BJP government was not doing enough to rein in fringe Hindu groups targeting Muslims.

The Election Commission appointed 33 observers to oversee the election. A total of 32 polling stations - one in Parliament House and one each in the state legislative Assemblies - have been set up.

Another Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said Kovind will register a "decisive victory" and would turn out as an "honest" president, who, he said, will work hard according to the Constitution.

"This is the supreme post of the country".
