  • Will Power crashes out of Toronto IndyCar

The race is Sunday.

The Frenchman attended a press conference on Thursday ahead of this weekend's Honda Indy Toronto on the streets surrounding Exhibition Place.

"I think that's twice we've had good calls in TO getting in to the pits at the right time", Newgarden said. He followed up his Indianapolis 500 victory with an eighth-place run in the first dual in Detroit before winning the pole for the second race and finishing fourth.

"The last shootout in Q2 is always exciting", said Hinchcliffe, who's coming off a career best third-place finish here past year.

"This finish has been a long time coming", the victor of the 2016 Indy 500 said.

"We were up there but I'll always take a bit of luck, I think we all would", he said. "We got it right".

Qualifying for this year's race happens today at 6:30 PM EST.

"There's a huge competition within the team", Pagenaud said. "I'm very proud of Honda for the efforts that they made". "Nice that the last two years it's kind of changed". Big shout out to the Toronto fans for coming out to the race. Hopefully we can climb up and get that win.

Oakville's James Hinchcliffe was seventh in the morning but slipped to 16th in the afternoon, something that is not unusual as race engineers make changes in the search for more speed. "The auto really came alive on the blacks, so big thanks to Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, all the guys - great stops - and all the fans in Toronto".

"From the moment when we start in go-kart, when you manage to do that special lap it's the best feeling in the world". You came even when the weather wasn't looking awesome and hung out with us and we appreciate it. "Thank you to the guys and thank you to Tim (Cindric) for making that call. Next year, maybe a couple of spots better".

Team Penske's Josef Newgarden claimed his second victory of the 2017 season and his second at Toronto over the past three seasons. "Now we can go to chase more wins", Rossi told NBCSN's Katie Hargitt post-race.

He was asked if he thought he could challenge for a championship.

"Iowa was tough", said Sato after his 16th-place finish there. "I thought we had a very fast auto, we got a pretty good start, stayed out of the mayhem, but very, very happy for all of Team Penske".

"When you race in the wet, the grip level is reduced so much and the braking zones are so much higher", he said. No less than four drivers ended up hitting the wall in Turn 11 a year ago, so it seems the concerns weren't completely unfounded.

Tied for sixth in the championship and with Team Penske's power four between them and points leader Dixon, Rahal and Sato have their work cut out for them.

Power dropped back to fifth in the standings and he is now 64 points behind series leader Dixon.
