  • US Capitol Police Officer Injured as Car Crashes Into Barrier

The chase ended when the vehicle slammed into a barrier and a police auto near the Library of Congress, according to reports.

The individual was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. He died of unknown injuries and was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital, police said.

Police have not identified the driver. They said the suspect has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assaulting a police officer and aggravated reckless driving.

Authorities said at this time there was no indication that the crash was related to an act of terrorism.

Police used explosives to open the vehicle's trunk and, after a long investigation that disrupted traffic, determined that there was nothing suspicious inside.

Cops used a bomb robot to apporach the vehicle and officers were heard yelling "fire in the hole" before the explosion. All test results from the vehicle came back negative.

Officers on scene have reportedly carried out a "controlled explosion".
