  • Storm the dog rescues baby deer

Mark Freeley was walking his dog, Storm, along a beach in Long Island when the golden retriever jumped into the water and started swimming after something.

As soon as the fawn reached the shore, Storm followed it, laying down next to the baby deer.

Once on land, the fawn ran off but soon collapsed, Freeley said. She was put in a quiet room to rest and will receive fluids, feedings and Strong Island Animal Rescue League said when she is old enough she will be released back into the wild.

When other passersby realized what was happening, the poor little fawn ran back into the water.

The fawn, which was covered in ticks and suffered an eye injury, should make a full recovery.

The vet took the fawn to her auto, and the animal is being treated. "At that point, that's exactly what I would have done".

As Freeley recorded, he watched as Storm went over to the fawn, grabbed it with his mouth, and delivered it safely to shore.

Freeley can be heard on the video encouraging the dog, "Good boy, Storm!"

Freeley's Facebook video has amassed more than 1.5 million views and more than 36,000 shares as of Monday afternoon. "He's a very affectionate, very loving dog".
