  • The quake struck in the ocean off Russia's Kamchatka

A powerful natural disaster measuring 7.7 on Richter scale shook United States'Alaska and Russia's eastern shore on Tuesday morning.

The natural disaster was followed by several aftershocks hit the northern Pacific Ocean between the tip of the Aleutian Islands and Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.

A 7.7 magnitude quake struck Monday evening off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.

Officials said preliminary info indicates there is no tsunami danger for the U.S. West Coast or Alaska. The quake was initially estimated at 7.4 but USGS revised its estimate to 7.7.

Waves were forecast to be less than 0.3 meters (1 foot) above the tide level for coasts in an area ranging from Russian Federation to Hawaii, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

Note that with a magnitude 9.0 quake, the probability of an aftershock with a magnitude exceeding 7.5 is not negligible.

At this time, there is no tsunami threat for the coasts of Washington, Oregon, California or Hawaii. To date, the largest aftershock recorded has been magnitude 7.1 that did not produce a damaging tsunami.
