Five attempts to stop PDP convention failed - Makarfi

  • Ifeanyi Okowa Delta State Governor

He congratulated the Chairman and members of the National Caretaker Committee of the party and pledged the continued support of PDP senators in moving the party forward.

Makarfi made the promise at the PDP non-elective national convention that held today in Abuja.

"I am here to reassure you that nobody can intimidate the PDP".

The prayers of these Nigerians were answered with the heart-warming Supreme Court judgement that thankfully halted the drift into chaos and bifurcation of our great party.

The second advantage of our wilderness experience is that Nigerians have had the opportunity of experiencing another party govern at the national level. We did a lot while in power and our achievements are there for all to see. You can come back and join us, you are always welcome.

Surprisingly, ‎the immediate past President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan and members of his Cabinet, a Presidential aspirant of the Party in the 2019 elections, its serving and former Governors as well as leaders stormed the Eagle Square, venue of the Convention is a grand style.

"We are going to overcome that with our resilience and to do the needful", Makarfi said. We have done well from the time of Obasanjo to Yaradua and to my time. "This is August 12 and there is no rain because God wants us to celebrate the PDP".

On this day, we need to reaffirm our commitment to the democratic ideals of internal party democracy, sovereignty of the people, majority rule and minority rights, the rule of law and good governance, respect for civil and political rights, and inclusive participation of all in party administration.

"The only way the black race can have respect is for Nigeria to have a stable democracy and the only thing that shows democracy is the legislature".

Many of our members that left earlier due to one form of disagreement or the other will return back to their party because the National Caretaker Committee has constituted a Reconciliation Committee as well as a Contact and Mobilisation Committee to reach out to them. Feel free to come back.

He urged Nigerians to partner the party in the efforts to achieve the objective.

The delegates agreed that the crises in the states should be resolved within the period but prior to the congresses. We must not think that we are out of the woods.

Thank you distinguished party men and women, ladies and gentle men for your time and attention.
