Eric Bellquist, 41, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm following the incident on London's Putney Bridge.

A wealthy U.S. investment banker has been arrested by police searching for a jogger who shoved a woman into the path of a bus in London.

According to police reports, the runner shoved the woman onto the road - an incident that could have resulted in a fatality - and continued on his run only to loop back along the same grounds 15 minutes after.

A following bus was forced to swerve out of the way, narrowly avoiding the 33-year-old woman as she fell backwards into its path. Police said the man was arrested at a property in the Chelsea area, taken to a south London station and later released.

His lawyers later released a statement saying he wasn't involved and could prove he was in the United States at the time of the May 5 incident.

It is unclear whether the man handed himself in voluntarily, but police said that officers "received a good response from the appeal". "Consequently, we expect a swift resolution to this wholly untrue allegation".

The Met said he will face no further action. The law firm representing Bellquist later confirmed on Friday that he was the man arrested, adding that he wasn't the person who'd attacked the woman on Putney Bridge. In the surveillance video, included here, a jogger can be seen to ignore one pedestrian but to suddenly head straight for the woman, reaching out his hand and sending her flying into the road.
