CUTTACK:A lady resident doctor of Transfusion Medicine Department in SCB Medical College and Hospital has tested positive for swine flu even as 13 new cases were reported on Thursday.

A review meeting was held here to take stock of the situation following spread of the two diseases in the state. "The Health department has been taking adequate measures to create awareness on the killer ailment". The swine flu lab, which had become operational two years ago, is proving a boon for patients as reports are readily available in a short period of time.

Regarding dengue, the health secretary said 370 people have been tested positive to the disease which has claimed the lives of two persons so far this year.

The ministry said it was monitoring patients with flu symptoms, in cooperation with the Myanmar Medical Association and Myanmar General Practitioners Association.

Sources said that highest number of dengue cases was reported from Bhadrak district. A total of eight people had died of dengue while almost 4,000 positive cases were reported past year.

He advised people to avoid self-medication and to wash hands at regular intervals since the disease was contagious.

The official said 16 of 28 samples tested positive for swine flu on Sunday, as the number of affected persons increased to 103.
