Chelsea to make £27 million bid for Leicester City midfielder

  • Chelsea have been told they won't be signing Danny Drinkwater

Drinkwater would also improve their mandate in the homegrown segment, with the Blues severely lacking in that department following the departure of John Terry and others.

Chelsea are to submit an improved £25m bid for Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater. The player himself is interested in a move and has told the club about his desires but Leicester are willing to hold on for a fee in the range of £40m ($51m), which the Champions received for the transfer of Nemanja Matic.

Chelsea are in desperate need of reinforcements and have just 14 experienced players in their squad for the start of the Premier League season.

Leicester have already rejected one offer from Chelsea of around £15million for Drinkwater this summer.

Drinkwater missed the Foxes' opening defeat to Arsenal on Friday night with a minor injury but the newspaper says he's keen on making a move to Stamford Bridge if a deal can be agreed between the two clubs.

It is not a secret that Antonio Conte wants his club to sign a few more players before the end of the transfer window as Chelsea have so far signed Caballero, Rudiger, Bakayoko and Morata.

With ongoing speculation around the future of another star player in Riyad Mahrez, Leicester followers will be counting down the days until the transfer window closes hoping that their big players remain in place at the King Power. Recruiting the former Manchester United starlet would also add to the club's share of "home-grown" players, which Conte is said to be keen on doing, but other than that the London Blues are best to focus on their other interests in proven players such as Oxlade-Chamberlain or Van Dijk.
