Man United's Mourinho: Prem title more realistic than last season

  • United in talks with Ibrahimovic about striker staying

Stopping short of a guarantee, Mourinho believes an encouraging pre-season and success in the Europa League last season can propel his side to further success.

City have spent around 200 million pounds ($259.46 million) to strengthen their squad in the close-season with other title contenders including Chelsea and Manchester United also spending heavily to bolster their teams.

Chelsea have been active in the transfer market, signing striker Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid, plus defender Antonio Rudiger, goalkeeper Willy Caballero and Tiemoue Bakayoko, the midfielder bought from Monaco before Nemanja Matic was sold to rivals Manchester United.

Chelsea and Diego Costa's dispute is no nearer to a resolution as the Blues begin their Premier League title defence in an apparent legal wrangle with the exiled striker.

There was times last season where a 35-year old Zlatan looked like a forward in his prime, and the prospect of the talisman returning to Old Trafford in the business end of a Premier League season is one that will be sure to make the United fans' mouths water.

He achieved the feat at Porto, Chelsea twice, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, with the only exceptions to the rule being his first two management roles, at Benfica and Uniao de Leiria, where he lasted less than a season in both cases.

Also, Sunderland was the first team to be relegated after ending their 10-year stay in the Premier League after a 1-0 home defeat to AFC Bournemouth on April 29, 2017.

JOSE MOURINHO, Manchester United manager, expressing his satisfaction with his new recruits.

"We have the confidence levels of a team who won a European competition. I think we are ready". The game will show how well manager Arsene Wenger has prepared to fight back into the top four after they missed out last season.

"It would be better to lose two or three but win three or four more and then have six or eight more points and then a different position in the table". The live action kicks off with the first Friday night football of the season as the Arsenal take on Leicester.

"My family and I were fortunate enough to travel across seven states, driving over 2,000 miles, following Manchester City on tour (in America) this summer and we had the most fantastic time". We lost only one league match at home and in the cups never lost (at home), but there were too many draws. During a five year spell with the Red Devils, he went on to score 59 goals from 157 appearances.

"At my other clubs, what I had was more players scoring goals".
