  • Two dead after helicopter crash in Albemarle County

The crash happened just a few hours after a auto plowed into a crowd of people peacefully protesting against the white nationalist rally.

Hundreds of protesters and counter-protesters had arrived in the morning in Charlottesville, a town in the eastern United States.

A 32-year old woman was killed and 19 people were injured when a vehicle crashed into a crowd, according to witnesses, counter-protesters at the rally of the extreme right. An investigation into the causes of the accident has been opened.

Robby Noll, a 20-year resident of a neighborhood where the accident reportedly happened, told TheDCNF that the helicopter went down quickly and appeared to "invert".

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe had already declared a state of emergency when a sedan surged into a crowd of what witnesses said was counter-demonstrators in the picturesque university city of Charlottesville. To me, he was my younger brother who would have been 41 on Sunday. Our message is plain and simple.

"We're closely following the awful events unfolding in Charlottesville, Virginia", Trump told reporters at his New Jersey golf course.

"We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides", Trump told reporters at a news conference at his gold resort in New Jersey where he is now on a working summer vacation.

Trump made no reply to a reporter's shouted question whether he had spoken out strongly enough against white nationalists.

In the Charlottesville crash, OH man James Alex Fields Jr. was charged with second-degree murder after running into a crowd of people. "There is no place in America for this type of violence", he wrote on Twitter.

Another 16 people were treated for other injuries linked to the rally, including from "individual engagements", Charlottesville police chief Al Thomas said.

Updates will be provided as they become available.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that "the violence and deaths in Charlottesville strikes at the heart of American law and justice".

He graduated from the Virginia State Police Academy in August 2004 as a member of the 107 Basic Session.

Gov. McAuliffe released a statement Saturday expressing his condolences to the troopers' families and calling them "close friends and trusted members of our team".

Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah, the longest-serving Republican senator in U.S. history, tweeted that "We should call evil by its name".

"These were white supremacists and this was domestic", said Gardner, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the group charged with helping to get Republicans elected to the Senate.

President Donald Trump also issued a tweet. No action on the move has been taken as midnight approached, Mayor Mike Signer said on his Facebook page. "It was just hard to watch, hard to see. Titled "Unite the Right" Rally", it brought together groups of the radical right and identity, including the Ku Klux Klan and neo-nazis.

Numerous far-right supporters brandished Confederate battle flags, considered a symbol of racism by many Americans, while others raised their arms in Nazi salutes.

The violence is the latest clash between far-rightists, some of whom have claimed allegiance to Trump, and the president's opponents since his January inauguration, when black-clad anti-Trump protesters in Washington smashed windows, torched cars and clashed with police, leading to more than 200 arrests. Another 15 people were injured elsewhere in connection to the rally.
