The police said the encounter started after the forces came under from the holed up militants.

In another encounter in Kashmir's Bandipora, two policemen were left injured when militants opened fire at them.

Three other injured soldiers are undergoing treatment in the military hospital. The operation against the militants was going on till the filing of this report, the sources said.

Pulwama was home to Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani, who was killed in an encounter with security forces in July previous year.

Cordon and search operation has been launched by the police and other forces to nab the terrorists.

Meanwhile, the internet services have been reportedly snapped in district Budgam. At least a dozen people sustained injuries in security forces action. They were identified as Irfan, a tech-savvy militant involved in online propaganda for the militant outfit, and Umar, who was personal security man of Ghaznavi.

"One person identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed got injured", a police spokesperson said. The operation was executed by Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, and the CRPF.

A 26-year-old youth was killed in forces firing at Shopian, marking second civilian death in south Kashmir in few hours following the killing of Hizb's Chief operational commander along with two associates on Sunday.

The troops blasted a mosque and four residential houses during the operation that began late last night in Awneera area.

Police said Imtiyaz Ahmad was injured when the bomb was hurled at Badyari Chowk on Saturday evening.
