In an attempt to not waste the recalled units, Samsung made a decision to release refurbished Note 7 phones as the Galaxy Note Fan Edition (Note FE).

Last month, Samsung virtually confirmed that the launch of the Galaxy Note 8 will take place via an unveiling event on august 23.

However, this time around it's not Samsung's fault.

Samsung's got another combustible phablets SNAFU on its hands, after the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled the batteries used in its Galaxy Note 4.

These are the batteries in refurbished Note 4 units. Some of the devices were fitted with "counterfeit" batteries that were manufactured with potential defects which could make them prone to overheating, according to Samsung. More details about this recall can be found at the CPSC website. There's no reason to worry about that the imminent Galaxy Note 8's battery safety, as Samsung can't afford another Note disaster after last year's events. The CPSC fear that these batteries might have a tendency to overheat, posing a risk of burns and fire hazards. The two units are distinguished by the fact that the former has a green dot placed on it. It shouldn't be any different with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 8, but the latter might join the O party a few weeks earlier, although there are no guarantees. There apparently aren't any cases of injuries or property damage yet. Another battery recall has taken place, but it involves the Galaxy Note 4 batteries; here is what you need to know about the entire process. The CSPC is specific that this is only for those units "distributed as replacement phones through AT&T's Insurance program only". "The batteries are non-OEM, which means they were not supplied as original equipment by the phone's manufacturer, Samsung", reads the release. Luckily for Note 4 owners, this phone came from the era of removable batteries, so all you need to do is swap in the new one.
